Mushrooms

On the Red Rocks Community College a lawn mower is heard in the distance. A smooth but chilling breeze is blowing from the west. The crabgrass sways back and forth. Yet standing in the middle of a small clearing is a gathering of mushrooms surrounded by the color changing leaves from the ever coming fall. The bright sun reflecting off their white but dirt covered heads. They are steady even though the wind picks up. But yet, in the middle of these mushrooms their is one that does not fit. It is upside-down exposing its soft underside. The look of rot coming from the base of its stem making the crisp colors of the fallen leaves around it look tainted. Out of place flattening the grass around it. It seems as if all serenity is lost.

if i were President

Hello, i am Robert Ytterberg and i would like to thank the people for nominating me for president. I would like to start my speech off with two words, Obey Me! No, i am just kidding, if i were to be nominated as president i would probably hire somebody to write my speech for me just like most people that end up running for office. After all, what fun is it to be yourself in front of an entire nation when you just have somebody do things for you. I don't want to be creative i just want to run a country. how much more clear-cut can it be. Technically i wouldn't even be lying to people cuz they aren't even my words right.
President could seem kind of fun, actually if i want i could shoot for tyrant instead of president. i say jump and the people would say how high. lets raise taxes, yeah it could all go to me to spend. After all these billions of dollars are all conceptual. Nobody is ever going to see a cent of it, so why can't i spend it on whatever the heck i want. But wait a minute, i live in the real world and the only reason that our economy works is because the people make it work. The moment that we stop believing is when our economy dies. Too bad it can't rest on our shoulders. Oh wait, it does.

My Tattoos, Piercings

Tattoos can mean a variety of things for many different people. The same can go for piercings. For me i hold the meaning of my tattoo very close. The tattoo that i have is a pair of wings on my back with my biological father's name between them. I got this because he killed himself when i was four years old. Throughout my entire life i have struggled with the thought of just letting it go. I never really wanted to because no matter what, you can not remember just the goods about one person. So for me to do this it was sort of a tribute to him as well as just a reminder for me that i can never forget.
As for my piercing, i got my lip pierced over the summer not for any other meaning except for the fact that i wanted too. However, i decided to take it out because my step dad is running for state senate. Considering the stereotype for kids with piercings i figured that i would do that for him because running for office has always been a dream of his. That's the great thing about piercings though, THEY COME OUT!!

Self Image

There is no denying that the images the media has portrayed to women of all ages has changed the perception of what a girl/woman would like to look like. However, to say that the same self image problems affect young men as much could hold some truth to that. It seems that in this day and age most 12-13 year old boys "dress to impress". Whether this refers to older siblings, friends or theior new teenage crush. It use to be that nice clothes, shirt tucked in and your hair parted to one side was a good idea not just to impress the person of your liking but as well as older people such as parents, family and sometimes the people at church. But in this day and age for a guy to grow his hair out long and kind of a grunge look is typical at that age. It is whats "in".

But it is not just a physical aspect for young men to need to conform. The mentality at that age is very similar for a large portion of those children. From what i have observed from my younger siblings as well as what i went through, you just want to be cool. Even if being cool is being rebelious, smoking pot, or simply just not doing your homework. They just want to be cool. After all if nobody thinks your cool at that age, it is typical for a lot of kids to get into highschool and become one of many steriotypes. The geeks are going to hang out with geeks the jocks with jock and skaters with skaters. Now you tell me, are people hanging out with people who are alike because of the social norm or images good or bad.

McCain's Speech

From the beginning of the speech i felt that the audience was completely out of control. Trying to get a point out of the speech was very difficult because it seemed that McCain had to only say a sentence to make the crowd go wild. He started out his speech thanking people and accepting his nomination as the republican presidential candidate. Then to say that he respects and admires Obama and his followers for their beliefs, then throws the comment of we are going to win the election at them. Personally i would like to here his reasons for winning before he starts making assumptions like that. To try and state this in a 45 minute speech i feel he did not do a very good job. If you want to make a point start with it, explain it and give it to me short and sweet. i still am not quite sure what he is trying to get across other than "change". Wait a minute, isn't that Obama's thing, CHANGE. but then for him to contradict him as much as he did really confused me.
